My most enduring memory of the Danang to Hanoi journey is standing by an open window at 3.30am in the morning as the train travelled across a large flat plain. There were small lights showing in houses dotted across the landscape. Obviously many people in Vietnam prefer to go so sleep with a light burning. It was a night with a full moon and the countryside was shimmering silver. The train was moving reasonably fast and the clatter of the wheels on the track echoed against the night.
