The Dragon is a very powerful symbol in Vietnamese mythology. The dragon eyes on the front of the boat are supposed to protect the vessel from dangers above and below the water. It is very rare to see a boat without this symbol. On some water ways the boat master would need an extra pair of eyes to navigate safely through the traffic jam so maybe the eyes on the front are not a bad idea.
