Hoi An has fascinating architecture which dates back to the early 19th century. In many ways the town is a museum of early Vietnam. Hoi An was spared during the American war and so this part of the countries history is well preserved. When you visit a shop look closely at the way the shutters are made and how they all fut together. Black roof tiles also give the town an distinctive appearance. You'll definitely want to check out the embroidery art which is very good. You can actually see pieces being created.
