Talking of money the local currency in Vietnam is the Dong and you'll be working in very large numbers. One million Dong is worth about $US62. You'll have no trouble staying in touch with the world because there are Internet cafes everywhere. There are coffee shops and bars in high rise buildings near the Lake that give you a good view of the city.
