The Hoa Lo Prison Museum also attracts a lot of visitors. During the American war this was called the "Hanoi Hilton" as POWs were incarcerated in this prison. The prison has a long history being built by the French in 1896. The prison was used by the French to hold Vietnamese who were fighting for independence. The French guillotine and torture methods were ruthlessly applied. Adjacent to the prison is a large modern skyscraper. REGION: South East Asia > Vietnam > Hanoi |
