Hanoi is the capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The city has a population of about 3,500,000 people. The old part of the city is built around Hoan Kiem Lake, a relaxed area of shady trees, sculptures, gardens and lots of fascinating people. The pace of the city is much slower than Ho Chi Minh and the historical buildings, particularly in the Old Quarter, are really worth exploring. There are many good restaurants, inexpensive hotels and friendly people.

Hanoi skyline on a clear afternoon. Hanoi has a population of 3.5 million people. The city has many narrow streets and lots of character. The rooftops of Hanoi Many of the buildings are three or four storeys high and very narrow. We stayed in Classic 1 Hotel in 22a Ta Hein Street Entrance to Classic 1 Hotel. Streets in Hanoi are narrow and mainly shady. Traditional peaked hats can be seen regularly but caps are taking over. Cyclos are the best way to get around in Hanoi The city is built around a central lake. Bridge to the Ngoc Hong Temple. Fountain near the lake. Lorraine loved the shopping in Hanoi. Silk shop with fine clothes. Taking an afternoon nap - Hanoi is very hot and humid.
