The weather at the beginning of our tour was slightly overcast but it soon cleared to clear sunny skies. Halong Bay can be cool and drizzly from February to April and fog can impair your view of many lovely islands and landmarks. In summer the risk of tropical storms greatly increases and this can sometimes disrupt schedules. Most of the houseboats that we saw were comfortable and could be quite cosy if the weather turned nasty. Mid afternoon on the first day we stopped at Titop Island which has a little beach. The swimming is good and there are lots of people around having a good time.
