It was a very pleasant experience to venture out at night and walk along the promenade. A musical show was being put on by members of the Vietnamese Army. The music was very good but the people listened politely rather than dancing to the rhythm. The show ended at a respectable 9pm. There are many shops, restaurants and tourist attractions along the promenade and the people of Cat Ba Island are very friendly. Many children sell postcards and they are very good at hawking their wares. They have mastered the art of selling and should be doing seminars overseas on how to persist and handle objections. The unexpected arrival of two girls with a kitten in their bike basket really topped off the evening.
