Cat Ba Island is one of the largest islands in Halong Bay. It has a population of 7,000 but many thousands of tourists visit the island, especially at weekends. Only one or two boats can load or discharge passengers at a time so it can become quite hectic at the arrival area. There's much shouting and blowing of whistles and pontificating among the boat owners. When you have landed on the island you get on a bus which takes you to the main town center where there are numerous hotels and facilities. On the day we arrived it was very hot.
