The trip from Titop Island to Cat Ba Island is really the highlight of the experience. Travelling in splendid weather and beautiful morning light gave us excellent views of many limestone islands. We travelled at low tide so it was very easy to see the high water mark on many of the islands. Many small fishing boats passed us on the way. During breakfast the swell came up a bit but the fresh morning breeze flowing through the boat assisted us to avoid seasickness. The best place to view the islands is from the upper deck.

Lorraine takes time to enjoy the morning sunshine. Solitary boat charts a course in Halong Bay. This is the best time of the day to be up on deck. A slight swell is running as the boat heads for Cat Ba Island. Contrasts in limestone and timber. No sign of the Tarasque - a gargantuan marine creature supposed to inhabit these waters. The sea has created two archways that look like spectacles. Majestic limestone islands. Lorraine is feeling slightly seasick from the swell. View of the islands from our bedroom window. A black raven makes an early morning call. A beautiful day has dawned. Small tourist boat heading back to Halong City. The island become more clustered as we proceed towards Cat Ba Island. Small fishing village. The high water mark is clearly visible on the island on the right.
